Back in the day, the gravity bongs we used were usually made of some sort of bottle cut in half, with a makeshift bowl piece attached to the cap in a bucket of water. There were many more steps, but it was a fun way to smoke. Maybe I will get into detail in an article on smoking devices, but fortunately this is much easier to use, and has no extra steps necessary like your traditional gravity bong. Just fill the glass piece with water, pack the bowl, and ignite while flipping the glass piece over. The water from the top chamber will enter the bottom chamber, filling the top chamber with smoke. Just flip again to force the smoke out of the mouthpiece, as again gravity does its job filling the top chamber, that is now on bottom with water forcing the smoke out. Just keep flipping until the bowl is cashed and the chambers are empty of smoke, and then repeat. A great party attraction.
