Dear Mama: How to Keep Track of Deals

Dear Mama,

How do you keep track of all the deals these days? How do you pick the best ones or which ones to skip? Especially holiday deals! I get whiplash keeping up with them. Some of the deals I’ve picked up weren’t worth the effort so now I’m more cautious.

Bargain Boy

Hey there Bargain Boy,

The deals are everywhere! The season of holidays is sneaking up on us all as well, so we need a plan to tackle this treasure trove of options with thoughtfulness. The tens of texts I get daily about the deal of the day are all enticing, but we all have a budget and stuff to do, so we can’t take advantage of them all.

First, I would like to repeat my old advice of identifying one or two dispensaries that you like. You can’t possibly keep up with getting the best deal if your options are 15-40 different stores. If you have your couple of stores identified, you can then figure out their daily specials schedule time for those shops. Like my shop has shatter Friday, flower deals Saturday and edible special Mondays. So if I need one of those, I know that’s the day I will go there.

Then there are other specials to watch for, like vendor days. This is when representatives for a brand will visit the shop and bring with them deals on their products. I find that if I watch for my fave brand and my shop’s specials, I can cover most of my needs with special deal pricing, I won’t go all over town to grab a few dollars off but if a brand I love has a BOGO deal on a more pricey item, I might travel for that.

The last thing I want to mention are the flower deals. Sometimes I see super low prices on large quantities of flower, but then I find out it tested at about 4% thc. If you do the math, normally tested cannabis on the low end is around 15%, so it works out to be regularly priced based solely on the thc content. Making it not really a ‘deal’. Is it on sale because it is the less attractive popcorn nugs or is it low test results?

I’m a fan of the deal, but I’m not willing to cut corners on quality. I like flavorful, sticky, dense nuggets and if I can’t find that on a deal I skip the deals. I like brands of edibles and vapes that are focused on being pure and consistent, so I brand shop those over grabbing the cheaper vapes and edibles that taste like chemicals and give me a headache, even if they are a smoking deal.

I bet you know what you like, so figure out when the things you like are cheapest at your shops, keep an eye on your five brand names and visit them when they are out at a local shop offering deals and keep an eye on test result of flower deals. Be sure it really is a deal.

Happy shopping & stay lifted, Mama
