Ayumi Alejandra Ayala García | How We Roll

Age: 25

I was born in Sinaloa, at the age of 18 I moved to Los Cabos, Baja California Sur. I have traveled through Mexico and some Latin American countries, Canada, USA during the last 5 years. The reality is that I don’t currently live in any stable place. I decided to embark again on a journey of self-knowledge and exploration, to explore myself and the small magical corners of my country.

What do you do for work?

For almost 6 years I have worked as a mixologist and bartender in Baja California Sur. I specialized as a brewmaster, I entered the world of craft beer and began to teach workshops, teaching processes, styles and pairing of different beers. I started in this craft beer world working for an American company as a freelancer. At the time I decided to start my own business and now I am handling the logistics as a freelancer for a craft beer brand in Mexico.

For Fun?

I have a fun but calm personality, I don’t need to do much to have fun. I really enjoy time alone, a coffee in the morning, listening to all the music that makes me dance, practicing a little yoga first thing in the morning, or going to break my legs at the gym, meeting friends, unplanned trips, making new friends anywhere just out of curiosity, reading, walking, writing. I like to do everything that makes me feel grateful for life.

Currently listening to?

Right now, I’m really loving NPR’s tiny desk concert with C. Tangana!

Best music when high?

I get asked this question a lot, but I don’t have favorite things, no music, no food, no color. It all depends on what mood I’m in, if I want to dance, bolero, funky, indie, reggaeton, disco, hip-hop, salsa, bachata. I’m Latin, and the shortest answer would be “everything that makes me move my hips”, but if I want to be chill at home, I listen to country, some rock, afro beat, indie, maybe pop .

What is your favorite way to consume cannabis?

Without a doubt, I prefer a joint in my day to day smoking, but I also use an old pipe that was a nice gift and memory of an adventure I once had.

So you roll your own?

The truth is that I don’t know how to roll joints, I usually use a roller, it’s easier and faster.

Do you have a favorite strain?

It depends on how I feel. I like indicas to relax, when I have my period, for romantic nights or just to chill on the sofa. Sativa makes me more active and I need to move, perfect for the day or for party nights.

Do you have a favorite “codeword” for being stoned?

In the north of Mexico, we have a word, we say “I’m fine pacheco.” It’s at that moment that you’re super, super high.

Best / strangest stoned food combo?

It’s funny, I’m not one of those people who has many cravings when I’m high, but the first time I smoked marijuana I was 15 years old and I was at a carnival in the nearest port in my hometown. I ate 27 tacos. Until that moment I had no idea how I could eat so much.

Favorite cottonmouth remedy?

Usually water, but have you ever had peach juice with natural pulp? If you haven’t, do it, it’s insane in flavor.

Favorite movies when stoned?

I consider myself to have great taste in movies, I am also a bit of a dark person. I like movies based on real events, action or fantasy depending on the context, but I also really like horror, suspense, murderers, and zombie movies could take the top 10 of my list.

Favorite smoking accessory?

As I mentioned a little earlier, I have an old pipe made of wood that I usually travel with, I have had it for several years. It was a gift from Don Ceno, he is 100% a Mayan family man, from a town called Yaxuná in Yucatan, in the south of Mexico. His family hosted me when I was traveling through the area with my dog Ramón, and he created that pipe for me with his own hands, since then I take care of it and keep it with much gratitude and love.

Any funny stories buying weed?

Actually in Mexico it’s still illegal, so we don’t have free stores on the streets. I hope that changes in the near future. But the place where I usually buy marijuana in San Jose del Cabo, Baja California Sur, where I live most of time, it’s a 24-hour taqueria, when you arrive you go to the cashier and say “give me some lettuce please” and they give you a paper bag and you leave with your “lettuce”. I think it’s really funny, “magical mexico” I’m lovin ‘it.

Tell me your favorite stoned memory.

Once, a little over two years ago I ran into some friends by chance. We went for a few beers, we ate a lot of marijuana brownies in that bar, then we went to an African party, and we ended up camping for 3 days. I even got a new tattoo on my arm, it was so much fun just going with the flow of the moment.

Dead or Alive, your ultimate smoke sesh guest list?

I would like to be sitting somewhere in the woods smoking, listening to music, talking and catching up with Adrian and Marcela having magical talks. I would like to be with Chris lying on the floor of my apartment and just enjoying the company, smoking a little for later, and enjoying that chicken soup that we like to cook so much. I would like to be with Eric, listening to country music, smoking that curious yellow glass pipe, fighting with the wind from the beach to be able to light it while watching the sunset. And without a doubt eating that mysterious ceviche that only exists in Yucatan, with Gabi and Adam only listening to music, smoking those pink paper joints laughing at nothing and everything at the same time. I would also like to be sitting there in front of Andrea and Eli, this time being the therapist. On one hand my American coffee, black and without sugar and on the other my old wooden pipe.

They are people and moments in my life that I am grateful to have lived and I wish to continue sharing moments like this with them and with many other people that destiny has prepared for me.

Are you craving anything right now?
